If you own a 2009-2010 Toyota Corolla and you’ve been hit in the back of the head by a trunk that won’t stay open, Toyota is extending the warranty on the springs the hold the trunk open. They say “…in certain limited conditions the trunk lid may begin to lose after the opening…this could cause the user to interact with the trunk lid and, in limited instances, result in a minor injury”.
The trunk lid torsion bars, long springs that support the trunk, can weaken over time and allow the trunk to fall closed if the lid isn’t open all the way, it is windy, the car is parked on a hill or if there is something on the trunk like ice.
Through Toyota warranty enhancement program ZE4 Toyota will cover the replacement of the torsion bars until October 31st, 2015 for all owners regardless of the car’s age or mileage. After October 31s, 2015 Toyota will cover the replacement of the torsion bars for 6 years from the vehicle’s date of first use with no limit on mileage.
As Eden Prairie and Chanhassen’s Toyota and Lexus specialists repair shop we’re happy to check the trunk bars for a concerned guest against the warranty enhancement, hopefully getting the problem resolved at no cost.
