If you own a 2012-2014 Toyota Camry that shudders under light acceleration, you may be eligible for both repair under a limited service repair campaign (LSC E03) in addition to an extended warranty offered by Toyota that may get you a new torque converter (CSP ZE5).

Under light acceleration your 2012-2014 Camry may shudder as the torque converter locks up.  The torque converter is the assembly that passes power from the engine to the transmission.  Under normal driving conditions it allows the engine to run while the car isn’t moving, but transferring power from the engine to the transmission when the driver accelerates.  To make the car more efficient the torque converter can lock the engine and transmission’s rotational speed together with a clutch assembly.  Sometimes this clutch assembly can engage poorly, resulting in the shudder many Camry owners are familiar with.

Until October 31st, 2017 Toyota will reprogram applicable Camrys with new software to help prevent the shuddering of the torque converter under LSC E03.  If this does not fix the issue for the owner, Toyota will replace your torque converter (as per Toyota repair bulletin T-SB-0034-14 Rev1) as part of warranty enhancement CSP ZE5.

The limited service campaign LSC E03 goes through October 31st, 2017 and can be done at any Toyota dealership free of charge – you should take advantage of this free campaign before then.  The enhanced warranty for the replacement of the torque converter is also good until April 30th, 2016 with no mileage limitations.  After April 30th, 2016 the warranty will cover any applicable Camry for 8 years from the date of the Camry’s first use or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first.

As Eden Prairie and Chanhassen’s Toyota and Lexus repair specialist we hope this helps a Camry owner get their shuddering car fixed at no cost!
