CARspec had the opportunity to replace rear struts on a 2004 Toyota Highlander today, discovered leaking during a routine inspection of the brakes. Like the leaking struts we replaced here and LX470 suspension here, the leak was outside of normal condensation you sometimes see at the top of struts. Road grime had collected on the leaked-out fluid:
The top is the failed, left rear, the bottom the intact, rear right strut. Struts are always replaced in pairs (especially at high mileage) to maintain the balance of the vehicle. The rear mounts and springs were in good shape (something we check for because broken Toyota springs aren’t unheard of) and were reused, lowering the overall repair cost. The vehicle was aligned, test driven, and returned to service.
As Eden Prairie and Chanhassen’s independent Toyota and Lexus repair specialist, we are able to diagnose and replace failed struts within the same day. We’re always happy to check your struts as part of a no-cost brake inspection, so give us a call at (952)426-4798 to make an appointment today!
