When attempting to diagnose a catalyst failure on a 2010-2011 Lexus RX450h, specifically on bank 2 with code P0430, inspect the Bank 2 Sensor 2 oxygen sensor for abnormal behavior.  If the vehicle doesn’t have any exhaust leaks and the code returns upon a failed catalyst monitoring drive cycle, inspect the Bank 2 Sensor 2 oxygen sensor.  If:

  • The vehicle is completely warmed up
  • The Bank 2 Sensor 2 oxygen sensor voltage is over 1.275 volts OR
  • The Bank 2 Sensor 2 oxygen sensor impedance/resistance is over 300 ohms

…the sensor requires replacement.  The above requires access to the ECM/PCM during operation to confirm, but in the case of the above conditions being met the culprit is the sensor and not the catalyst.  This code and malfunction is particular to these two years of Lexus RX450h. The sensor is located at the base of the front bank’s manifold, the location circled in the diagram below:
